Modern society slowly abandon the book and prefer other ways of getting information and spend leisure time. In other words, reading books, scientific magazines is getting more and more unpopular, but it’s not unexpected, bearing in mind many alternatives: TV, internet, films, etc. People are tend to choose what is easier, more comfortable and effortless for them to do. Can we blame them? Of course, no. We live in fast moving world. Everything changes rapidly. People are tired and they want entertainment as soon as they can get it. But on the other hand, it hides some problems.

Nowadays most TV shows, movies are worthless: they are cheap, vulgar and created to shock audience. A lot of magazines write only about celebrities, their lives and rumors. It’s common to find dummy, false articles on magazines, because that’s the way to gain popularity and earn money. Not to mention many solicited articles in media to influence public opinion. All these things are usual now and they hardly surprise anybody.

For sure, there is always an alternative. You can ignore this float of meaningless information and seek for higher quality readings and information. But the problem is that most of society just don’t do it. Most people just take what they get. Futhermore, they get used to gutter media, they adopt rules of the game and they just see anything wrong anymore. In this way society is becoming easier to operate and manipulate. This could be avoided, if people would select what to read and what not to read, what to watch ant what not to watch. But it’s difficult to achieve without proper education from an early age. Realizing the importance of reading we should promote children’s reading motivation. Child’s approach to the book is highly dependent on its social and cultural environment, and especially the family.

Soo let’s back to reading. We just found out why it is important to read good books and articles. But reading has more advantages. According to researchers, reading relaxes us a lot. It’s more relaxing than walking and watching TV. In contrast, movies involve us in others problems and we cannot rest properly. In my opinion, we all should take some changes. Instead of watching silly movie, we can all take a book and find out something new, something nice and important for us.

21st Century offers a very different reading experience. We no longer need to go to bookstores, libraries to get a book. Today you can buy a electronic book online or even download it for free. Chris Guillebeau has been challenging authority since 1978. He’s traveled to over 100 countries and will have visited every country in the world by 2012. Chris describes choices that enable him to learn and grow in ways that that will not appeal to everyone. And yet, you do not have to aspire to become a person to learn from them about yourself. Chris shows through his own and others example that it is possible if we stay focused on some pretty basic principles. I am re-energized in my own dreams by his practical, down-to-earth suggestions and hope to encourage both of my children to set their own rules and change the world !

Chris says that “The only things you?ll need to give up are assumptions, expectations, and the comfort zone that holds you back from greatness.” I certainly have given up on assumptions and expectations. The comfort zone is still something that holds me back. Chris wanted comments, feedback and thoughts on the issue. I skimmed through the comments and was surprised to find that most of the comments ends up straying from the issue and attempts to define SUCCESS.

Chris reminds us to take our dreams seriously and to challenge the conventional by asking what it is we truly want out of life. You can’t make something out of your life, he says, unless you know where it is you want to go. Chris is visiting every country in the world. My goal is to attend every conference. Chris G’s manifestos were some of the first manuscripts that I read when entering the blogosphere. His attitude is something that I constantly look up to, and respect.

Unlike many aspirants to the Tim Ferriss throne, Chris actually lives the life he preaches, and his approach introduces some new and exciting practices into the broader conversation. Ultimately, it is the practical tips that separate the work from standard “be the change you want to see in the world” fluff, and make it an essential read. Unlike most self-help books, this is grounded in solid experimental work. The only downside is that the actual text is a bit dull, and attempts to lighten it (e.g., with a series of unfunny jokes and cartoons about a creative caveman and his dim sidekick) fall flat.
